No piece of literature is wholly unique?

Dr. Thomas C. Foster stated in his novel How to read Literature Like a Professor that no piece of literature is unique, ideas are borrowed and "recycled" even if the author didn't mean too. Do you disagree? Can you name any text that is unique and an exception to his rule? And please do not state a religious text, Im thinking more along the lines of a novel.
